Human Right Number Six
You Have Rights No Matter Where You Go
I am a person just like you!
Discussion Topics
Find out who knows what the United Nations is. If anyone doesn’t, cover this with them.
UN: A place where the countries of the world can come together to discuss and take action on the issues confronting humanity in the 21st century. Things such as peace and security, climate change, human rights, terrorism, humanitarian and health emergencies, food production, and more.
By enabling conversation between its members, and by hosting negotiations, the Organization has become a way for governments to find areas of agreement and solve problems together.
Cover how helping more and more people know and be aware of their Human Rights directly relates to this article.
Activities
Begin by playing the You Have Rights No Matter Where You Go PSA for your group.
Write a letter as if to someone in another country. Encourage questions to be written that ask what their lives are like, and how well their human rights are being recognized. Let the students know you will be picking one letter to be sent on to our organization and we will deliver to someone in another country and get a response!
Important Note
Resist the temptation to play all 30 human rights videos at this point. Save those for each meeting that follows. Carry out the activities and let your students’ own visions of the 30 human rights materialize as the lessons unfold, one at a time.
